Walter Street Parking Structure is a Design/Build project built on an existing 250 car parking lot. A new three tier, 811 car precast parking structure with attendants booths, a car count and access control system was constructed adjacent to a busy medical campus.
There were many challenges associated with this project. The Owner required an aggressive construction schedule and, at the same time, maintaining 130 ground level parking spaces during construction.
Unmapped sub-surface obstructions from previous buildings were found. This required coordination with local redevelopment agencies, local and state code offices as well as Mass Highway Authority to acquire all permits and variances.
The local community wanted the parking structure to resemble and match the surrounding buildings, so the design team created a parking structure with brick veneer spandrels and a full brick clad stair tower. A six foot high aluminum ornamental fence was also added around the perimeter.
