Barr & Barr, working with the Berklee College of Music and the Architects Kubitz & Pepi, completely gutted and
renovated the existing performance center and retrofitted the theatre with new and state-of-the-art technology. The
1200-seat concert hall facility offers musicians, vocalists, and students a professional environment in which to
stage and choreograph performances, live stage design and live production techniques. Sophisticated systems such
as sound, lighting, stage equipment along with a comfortable and inviting atmosphere gives Berklee College of
Music the opportunity to be a leader in Boston as a performing arts center.
Construction took nearly 1-½ years making major structural changes, complete MEP demolition and additions. An
additional classroom and music/practice booth building was added within a center courtyard. This work was performed
while the school remained occupied. In the heart of Boston, Barr & Barr worked
closely with the City of Boston to maintain a safe and inviting work place.
Today the Performance Center hosts many top performers and luminaries but most importantly is the stage of an allimportant
classroom for tomorrows musicians, vocalists and producers.
