Renovations of and additions to this library for the City o Haverhill have provided a total space of 44,000 SF in three stories. The additions have increased the book collection and expanded the children’s reading room and rare book document space.
Existing MEP systems were modified and integrated with those in place. Installation of a geo–thermal heat pump system, which utilizes both ground and well water, has provided a more efficient and environmentally conscious facility.
The clock and bell installed in the newly constructed bell tower had originally hung in the Haverhill City Hall. Careful coordination was necessary to install the bell into the tower, due to its historic significance and irreplaceable value.
The additions and alterations on top, as well as to the sides, were accomplished while the library remained in full service over a nine month period. Detailed planning allowed the construction to move forward with minimal interruptions to the operations.
