Barr & Barr, Inc. is the construction manager for Williams College new theatre and dance complex. The multi-year project includes the construction of a new 250 car parking garage, a new central chiller plant, extensive utility relocations, renovation of the existing Adams Memorial Theatre and construction of a new 106,000 SF performing arts complex that will contain two theatres and a multitude of rehearsal, support, and teaching space.
An extensive utility relocation program was undertaken to clear the footprint for the new theatre. Barr & Barr completed the work on schedule despite the extreme weather conditions encountered in the Winter.
Williams College will use the new theatre as home for its theatre and dance programs as well as the “Williamstown Summer Theatre Festival.” The high-end complex will include a formal 550-seat main stage, a 240-seat center stage “Black Box venue”, scene shops, dressing rooms, seminar rooms, dance rehearsal spaces, classroom space, and faculty offices. The new facility will also include state-of-the-art traps, lifts, audiovisual systems, rigging, and acoustics.
Renovations to the existing Adams Memorial Theatre include ADA upgrades, reconfiguration of the existing theatre space, complete replacement of mechanical systems, and construction of a new front lobby.
