The project involved the construction of a new 236 car parking structure consisting of precast columns and deck. The garage is designed for future campus expansion and houses a new central chiller plant which will service Williams’ new Center for Theatre & Dance.
The parking structure was carved into the side of a hill, to allow the top level to be at grade on the East side while the bottom level is at grade on the West side. Due to poor existing soil conditions and the nature of the design, massive excavation, large foundations and retaining walls were required. In addition, numerous existing site utilities had to be relocated to clear the footprint. The new structure included new water lines, sewer lines, storm drainage, high voltage electrical lines, chilled water piping, data and communication lines as well as a new storm water retention basin.
Special features on the project included the use of colored precast concrete, field laid brick cladding and the construction of a lead coated copper Belvedere roof.
